“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV
As we continue to study the promises of God, the Lord wants us to remember that He is the God who is able. Able to do what exactly – anything!
He has supernatural abilities.
The word supernatural according to Merriam Webster means: departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature.
Ability from the same source means the quality or state of being able. It also means competence in doing something.
When the supernatural power (ability) of Yahweh comes upon us and gets in us, we can do or get what neither money nor strength can achieve.
Let’s sit and let that marinate in us for a bit.
The Vine
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”
John 15:1-2, 4-5, 7-8 ESV
My mom loves gardening. She’s not the best gardener but she has a love for seeing not only plants bloom but also seeing crops come forth. As soon as spring burst forth this year, she went around the back of our home and with my dad, they begun their tilling of the soil. I want to interject here and say that throughout the winter, she was constantly throwing food peelings around the back. Why? To add some nourishment to the soil. I’m no farmer so I can’t break down the effects but seeing this causes me to think of how Farmer Jehovah adds to our varying soils different peelings in the winter because He has a plan and purpose in mind during the spring and summer.
Back to their process…😉
So, after the soil was tilled, the seeds were planted and over time I began to see various crops coming forth. There were squashes of different kinds, potatoes, hot peppers, okras, tomatoes, peaches, corns and even some strawberries.
As I looked on I began noticing that the squashes had a tendency to find plants (see photo above with the corn) and even fences that they would wrap their tendrils around. In the most unlikely of places I would see these tendrils gripping and climbing higher. I noticed that the tendrils were even finding their way to our neighbors’ yards. It was remarkable to see.
On one such observation, I saw where a squash began growing on a fence (more like a section of wires) my parents erected to keep the deer out. The tendrils, I noticed entered different openings of the fence as a way to hold on, possibly for stability and even for support. In and out of the holes of the fences the tendrils went until it decided to begin bearing fruit (vegetable in this case). As the squash formed initially, it originally sat a groove of the fence. I noticed however, that as it grew bigger and bigger, it was raised from the fence by the tendrils holding it and began hanging in the air. Seeing this sight really astounded me and so I asked both parents if we should harvest this squash in order to prevent it from falling to the ground via gravity and bursting open. Both parents emphatically responded with a “NO.” What they said next though got me. They said “the squash would be fine because the vine was strong enough to hold it. Wow!
Lessons
Holy Spirit immediately began forming teaching lessons in my head.
- Jesus is the vine. If we stay connected to Him, He can keep us hanging, even in mid-air.
- Jesus is the vine. We can trust that being connected to Him will keep us safe (His definition of safe mind you, not ours).
- Jesus is the vine. By remaining connected to Him, we can be confident gravity (trials of life) can never pull us down, beyond His reach.
- Jesus is the vine. Life can only continue once we stay connected to Him.
- Jesus is the vine. He decides when we are ripe for harvest and when we are ready to be eaten.
- Jesus is the vine. We are not and so have no control over our growth, where we go, who partakes of us – He does!
- Jesus is the vine. He is able to go through any place (see picture above) and as the fruit/branch connected to Him, we will be beneficiaries. Where Jesus is, we benefit.
- Jesus is the vine. We don’t need to worry about being strong enough or safe enough. He’s got us.
- Jesus is the vine. He has supernatural abilities to do what we can’t, to exceed our expectations, to defy the laws of nature.
Wrap-Up
As we began this study, we began by saying some promises are contingent on our obedience while others are just given to us based on our acceptance of the promises. I believe that seeing God’s supernatural workings in our life can fall into both categories. You see, sinners see God at work but because their eyes are blinded, they describe it as chance, or coincidence or even luck.
Those of us who are in relationship with Him get to see and partake first hand in what He is doing. We get to see how He rewards our obedience to Him when we stay connected to His vine. Those around observing (as I am still to that squash hanging on to that vine) get to experience God’s supernatural ability to defy gravity. His power showing that He can do more than I can imagine.
As people who cling to the Vine, we get to see how God provides for us supernaturally – against the odds.
Unemployed spouse, parent or even self and we see God providing miraculously.
Bills stacking high, we see Him touching the hearts of the companies in extending to us longer grace periods to come up with the funds.
Sick parents,we see His outstretched hands of compassion on them, and us. We see our employers showing us favor to be away from work to nurture those in our care.
No food, we see Him providing a food bank or a church to donate so much so that we have more than enough to give to our neighbors.
Whatever the issues or obstacles we face or come up against, our God is able to do abundantly more than we could ask, think or imagine. So long as we remain in the vine, He’s able to hold unto us even in midair.
I love you friend, and so does our SUPERNATURAL DAD!
Until next time remember, His Promises are our Guarantee…🙌🏽
Amen! As former farmer I always appreciate how God teaches us through nature, especially when it involves vegetables. Yum! Excellent lesson!
Blessings and peace to you this day! 🙂

Praise God, Homer. Thank you for stopping by. As a former farmer, can you shed some insight for me into the peelings and their benefits please?

You are very welcome. Sure be glad to help. The rind of any squash can be baked for a delicious treat. When we were first married Wanda received a watermelon from my father only she didn’t know it was a watermelon. She thought is was just a squash. Asking some of her friends at work what to do, they told her to bake it whole for about an hour. So she did. When I got home from work the smell was unreal. When I opened the oven and saw the mess I just about burst my spleen laughing so hard. My poor wife. We still joke about it today.
As far as peelings (and some squash need to be peeled before cooking as you know) if you are on a farm they make great slop for pigs. If you don’t have that, grind them if you can and compost them. There is a lot of nutrients in there that will be good for the soil. Just make sure the pieces are really small because it takes time to break down the rinds and peelings.
One thing we learned long ago was not to waste any part of the plant. Everything is useful. You just have to learn how to use each part. We are big on composting (only it is impossible here without a house and garden 😉 ).
Also keep the seeds. If this isn’t a hybrid squash you can clean the seeds, dry them and use them to sow next years crop. Or you can salt them and bake them in the oven for a snack.
Blessings,
Homer Les

Poor Wanda! 🤭
So the peelings are filled with nutrients that are good for the soil which in turn become good for the plants. Now this is good food (pun intended) 🤗

😁 Yes. The only downside is that we have to hurt their peelings to see the benefit. 😜

Thank you for pressing in with me. Homer, God will see you through this season you are in. Just like the plants have to undergo a season of pruning, trimming and harvesting – we do so. Keep strong even now. 🙏🏽

Thank you for the encouragement. It is well received. More, now than before, we are being pruned ever so finely. We found out last week Wanda’s mother died 6 months ago. That was grievous. When the Father led us to give her large inheritance back to the family it was a test of faith at a level we had not experienced so far. What a God we serve! We are at complete peace as we trust Him to bring about the harvest that a life of uncompromising faith brings.
I cannot thank you enough for these precious words. I don’t know if I fully understand the depth of what has happened recently. You are indeed a Precious One! May you bathe in His blessing and love today my sister.

Wow, Homer, my heart goes out to you but especially to Wanda with this shocking “suddenly” news.
I’m glad to hear you are in peace, life in the valley close to the heart of God tends to evoke this. Makes us wonder why we need the mountaintop sometimes (but we do).
The Lord will continue to reveal the lessons of this season for you. He will continue to affirm you. He will continue to validate and vindicate you. Stand still my friend, stand still and see His Salvation!
Thank you for the blessings as well! I appreciate them ☺️

Deandra, I literally wrote this verse on an index card this week and decided to make it a life verse! I decided to stop praying wimpy prayers and start praying for bigger, more specific prayers! I looked the verse up in several translations, and I also love the AMP version: “Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do super abundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.” Amen and bless you, sweet friend!! 💕

Kudos to you on your stance on getting rid of those “wimpy” prayers. Let’s pray back scripture to our God! Let’s study and memorize! Let’s dare to believe that it takes our Father great pleasure in hearing us make big requests of Him. After all, He isn’t a puny – wimpy God. He can do “infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams.” Love you, beloved friend❤️ 🤗

Great post and lesson to learn from the vine. I especially like when your parents told you that the vine is strong enough to hold the squash even though some of those squashes can grow to enormous size. This place a picture in my mind og Jesus holding all of us together on the same vine. He is powerful enough to hold us but unfortunately some of us lose faith and cut ourselves off from the vine because we believe we are big enough to survive out there in the world by ourselves. Also with all of us holding on to the vine it brings unity and stability to our lives. Thank you for confirming these words. I would love to reblog this post.
LikeLiked by 2 people
By all means go ahead and reblog my sister. The words are from the Lord for us to learn together.
I love your description of us all on the vine. Amazing! Though we are in different places, each of us (squashes) is sitting on the Vine that is strong enough to carry us through. Unlike the vine in my backyard that will die come winter, the Christ our Vine will never die – ever. Through eternity we will still be connected to Him because nothing will ever come to separate us so long as we keep “hanging on.”
Thank you for this reminder too, to not cut ourselves off and lose faith. It is so easy to feel isolated and alone, especially since we don’t see other squashes around all the time, sometimes the Father has us away for a while on a different section of the vine for whatever reason – nonetheless though, we can be sure that there are millions of others on His Vine! Wow Beverly, I see you doing a Part 2 to this! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🤗🤗🤗

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 Dear Precious One, since God is a god of unconditional love and has lavished this universe with abundance in everything, all mankind has to do is to be in agreement with Him to receive. (Then the two shall be One.) So what ever man lacks that is within God’s will, he should walk with assurance (sight unseen) that God has already provided it for him. That’s where the ‘blessing’ comes in; for Scripture says…”BLESSED are the poor in spirit for they shall SEE God.” When we are “poor in spirit (lower case ‘s’) we are already Blessed by the SPIRIT (upper case ‘S’). And if/as we come into the mindset of Jesus…we WILL see God at work in our situation and can prematurely walk in victory. Love you, my child.
