Where does your inspiration come from?

As a Christian blogger, what inspires you to write? 

Earlier today, I sat before the computer going through scribbles of yester-years trying to glean something to share with you all. I began writing about how important rest is for us as humans and how necessary it is that we ensure we find time to cease from our labors in order to be restored and refreshed.

Since that post was going nowhere fast, I walked away from the computer, and invited my mom to help me tidy the kitchen. With joy she got up from reading her book and there we were, emptying pots, putting together meals for her and my dad to take to work this week (meal prep) and just enjoying each other’s company.

As I stood by the kitchen sink, I began asking Abba for further insight into resting.

Silence.

I then asked Him for inspiration on something to share.

At this request, He responded quickly – thankfully.

His response though was more of a conviction. “How do you expect My inspiration if you are not spending ample time in the Word?”

Ouch!

To inspire means to excite, encourage, or breathe life into. Inspire comes from the Latin word that means to inflame or to blow in to. When you inspire something, it is as if you are blowing air over a low flame to make it grow.

Wow!

I slowly began to get a glimpse into the verse that says “all Scripture is God-breathed.” Because the Lord blew upon these mighty men they were inspired to share what He had laid upon their hearts.

Let’s take a closer look at the rest of verses 16 and 17 of 1 Timothy 3. It says, “…and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

See the benefits we can gain from embracing the God-breathed Word? We have it to use in teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. These are all tools we use in our writing as Christian bloggers. When we share what the Lord has laid on our hearts, we end up teaching and being taught; correcting and receiving correction; rebuking and being rebuked and ultimately, being trained in righteousness (and even helping holder in this vein too).

The Word of God not only brings us inspiration – but it transforms us too. We become built up the most holy faith.

Verse 17 goes on to show us that the Word equips us for every good work.

How can we be equipped as bloggers if we are not equipped in the Word?

How do we respond to comments made both positively and negatively if the Word is not seasoning the very fiber of our beings?

I confess to you, that all weekend I have barely spent five minutes in the Word.

Sad, right? I have intentionally chosen to spend quality time hanging out with family and close friends. I have deliberately ran errands early in the mornings for whatever reason. But, when it came to sitting and actively soaking up the Word – I rushed through the devotionals like a child given a bar of chocolate for the first time.

This lesson really hit home for me and has left me wanting to ask you my fellow Christian bloggers how you receive inspiration. I understand that many things can leave us inspired: nature, life events, challenges – even a very thought – but shouldn’t the divine Word of our Father be our main source?

How can we expect to be inspired if we never spend time with the Author of Inspiration?

How can we share His love if we never spend time interacting with the God of love?

How do we expect to shine brightly, if we never sit and be illuminated by Him?

Thankfully, the Lord has a way to nudge us in the right direction. He also is so gracious in giving us resets. Lastly, we are ever so grateful, that He always continues to inspire.

So, here’s my challenge to us all this week. Let us find time to be inspired by the Word.
