Let me begin by saying a line from this song which no surprise, came from this verse in 2 Corinthians 1:20. It goes…
“All Your promises are yes and amen.”
Now the foundation has been laid, let me confess to you all one of my major struggles. I often find myself experiencing spiritual amnesia. Truth be told, I don’t think I’m any better than the children of Israel.
Here’s the scenario: The Lord Almighty performs a great miracle in my life and I rejoice. I celebrate His goodness; may high-five a friend and bask in that moment for a while. Next obstacle comes, I begin lamenting and singing my “woe” song and walk around forgetting what my ABBA did not too long ago. I sit in my worry rocking chair and fret both consciously and subconsciously and lament about what I am wanting instead of keeping my eyes on Jesus knowing that only when my focus remains on Him am I reminded of both His previous acts of deliverance and His unchanging nature.
Ugh! I feel many times that I am walking through the wilderness having forgotten that all my Father’s promises are Yes and Amen.
So my fellow sojourners, I feel it is incumbent upon us to study God’s promises so that when we are faced with challenges, we can lean on His Word which as scripture reminds us, is unfailing. Let us walk along the path laid before us as we uncover the many promises given to us in the Word.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” Matthew 24:35 (NASB)
For the last half of this year, I am trusting that through the grace and assistance of Holy Spirit, to be able to dissect some of the promises of God and trust that these promises will be riveted to the core of our souls.
It is also my prayer that as we learn of God’s Words to us that we will cling to them for dear life. They will be food to our weary souls. Balms for our weary hearts. Strength for our drained bodies.
Matthew Henry said, “We can depend on God to fulfill His promise, even when all the roads leading to it are closed. ‘For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” [so be it] is spoken by us to the glory of a God.”
Join me in prayer…
Father,
We ask Lord that You would forgive us for our shortcomings of not holding fast to that which You have promised. Forgive us for neglecting the promises You have given us through the logos passed down through the annals of time. Forgive us for doubting You. We ask that as You teach us of Your promises found in Your Word, that we will commit them to memory. May we walk in faith and not by sight. Nothing is able to thwart the fulfillment of Your Words to us Father. Show us through the pages of scripture that Your words are infallible and You are always near. May we surrender our wills and trust only in You. In the name of Jesus we look to You today for grace and guidance over our time of study and fellowship. Amen.
I can relate to the spiritual amnesia bit, we can so easily focus on the problem and fret about it forgetting that we are doing that because our eyes are not on God. Thankyou for this reminder 😊

Guilty am I in this regard 🙈. May the Lord help us to keep our eyes on Him indeed.

His love for us is unconditional Preciousone, and eternal. So no worries.
But spiritual amnesia ( new term for me and I like it 😊) is also natural. Maya/ Illusion is also His creation and is very strong.
My guru, Paramahansa Yogananda says : falling down is not a failure; refusing to get up is.
You are doing good😊 Keep it up.

I feel you my fellow sister in Christ! Sometimes I feel like the Israelite murmuring in the desert when I go through hard times. God so graciously is teaching me to thank Him in all circumstances (1st Thessalonians 5:18) through the Holy Spirit! Its part of growing and becoming mature as a believer in Christ. Don’t worry dear, we will get there soon. God bless you in Jesus name!

Whew! I’m not the only one who feels like the Israelites 😅🤣. By God’s grace beloved…we will get to that point where we are thankful to our Father in all circumstances, amen? 💐

Most times, we have a convenient memory. When faced with new challenges, we simply forget how God saw us through past ones. Constantly Feasting on God’s Word helps us to build a firm assurance in his faithfulness.

So so true. A memory that pops up “conveniently – inconveniently”. Great point though friend…only when we feast (eat heartily and not stingily) are we able to be assured confidently of God’s faithfulness ☺️

I am trying to get back into writing things down so I can remember the prayers I have prayed and God’s answers. I agree it is easy to forget and become discontented. He’s always faithful even when we don’t understand all His ways of working. But I believe the prayer journal will help us, so I’m trying to stick to doing it. Thanks lil sis, this is a wonderful post! 💜💕💜

Big sister…you are onto something there. A prayer journal to help document our requests and answers. I love it. Maybe we could even create a blessing jar where we write blessings down and place them in jars to read when we feel ungrateful 🤔. I’m thinking this is why the Lord would command that things be written down or certain signposts of sorts be placed at critical junctures with the children of Israel. Mhmhm. In any event…thank you for the suggestion big sis, the wheels in my head are turning ❤️❤️❤️

I like the blessing jar idea too!!!! You’re welcome! And of course the precious Holy Spirit unexpectedly will bring things back to us when we get amnesia lol. He’s always helping us to get better ❤️

Sweetie, I struggle with this a lot. I agree that prayer and bible study, while remembering His promises and sovereignty over everything greatly helps. It’s a battle for me too. 🤗💕

Isn’t it good to know even in our struggles we are never alone? Oh how freeing. Reminds me of the verse that says confess your faults one to another (James 5:16). There’s a liberation that is intended for us in this area. Viv, we will overcome through the blood of the Lamb. I read in my devotional this morning this quote by Samuel Rutherford, “Whatever happens, the worst will only be a weary traveler receiving a joyful and heavenly welcome home.” Not sure if it ties into this post/chat, but for some reason, I think you would be blessed as I was to hear this. Love you Viv from VA ❤️❤️🤗🤗

Yes, because when we are real with other Christians it brings glory to God. I’m not at all comforted by people who act all perfect and like they’ve got all the answers. It’s discouraging for me when those people rip me apart for my honesty. Oh well, I keep being true and real anyway…God knows the heart. Oh, lovely quote from Rutherford! I have a quote from him on my story page. He gets it! Thank you for sharing dear Deandra and for being who you are because that’s who we love. Love you back!!💕💕😚🤗

Oh Viv, I share the same sentiments about vulnerable and honest people – those are the ones I find myself gravitating to and appreciating. I’m sorry for the encounters you have with the “stuffy” people – ugh ugh ugh 😑. I will go check out your story page about Rutherford and review his life too – I’m so happy you have found comfort in him. Much love 💖💝💞💖

Matthew Henry said, “We can depend on God to fulfill His promise, even when all the roads leading to it are closed::::;:;;; Amen, this is definitely food for thought, I need to digest this so that the next time I’m tempted to forget God’s promise I’ll be able to say DEVIL….

Such a familiar struggle! The enemy is always ready to whisper, “Yeah, God helped you last time, but what makes you think he’ll help you this time?” You’re right, Precious One: we need to be ready to fire back with Bible promises! P.S. Love that Matthew Henry quote!

Thank you for swinging by Nancy! It is imperative that we know the Lord’s promises, have them hidden in our hearts so we do not sin against God in our actions or thoughts. I do love that quote too 🤗

One benefit that I get from blogging as a storyteller is that every time I relate a (true) story of a time God came through for me, it reminds me again and again of His faithfulness in the past, as well as reinforcing the confidence that He’s not going to stop being faithful – ever.

You are a beautiful blogger. I guess we all struggle with our memory. I personally think we are wired like that…to forget godly blessings that is. After all, if we remembered them continually, just who would praise the Lord?….and you know He Looovvveeesss praises. May I remind you of another song entitled “Lest I Forget”. The words are…King of my life, I crown Thee now. Thine shall the glory be. Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow, lead me to Calvary. Please google this song and listen to all the words. RECALL is God’s way of keeping us on our knees. Be blessed my child.

I absolutely love this song! I grow up “old school” and one of my favorite group, Grace Thrillers did a rendition of this…all I can say is Hallelujah!
