Words (Intro)

The first chapter in book of Genesis records one of the very first thing God does during the creation story. Does anyone recall what that was?

You’re right – He spoke.

He spoke light into existence and subsequently other things we now have to enjoy and benefit from. As believers, we know that God doesn’t “often” speak with words. Sometimes to me it feels as though God is more silent than He speaks. I mean, I could go on and on and on in prayer (or venting) to Abba on an issue and His response is a mere word.

Like seriously Lord, only one word 😱

But – I’ve come to see that this one word He may have spoken, is able to cover all the words I did.

His one word is so soothing, so calming, so convicting, so (you fill in the blank).

His one word is SUFFICIENT!

I think now to what took place in the New Testament where the birth of Jesus Christ was being introduced. John describes it as this “The Word became flesh and dwelt among men”.

The Word -Became flesh -Dwelt among men.

Wow.

Back to the word “Word“.

God’s Word was so powerful that it was able to become flesh. Abba’s Word became the Lamb of God who came take away our sins and shame and bring us into right standing with a Holy God.

Hallelujah!!

God’s Word called light into existence at creation and in the New Testament, the Word that became flesh also became the Light of the World.

Mind-blowing and toes tingling!

Can we have a selah- moment#

Father,

Thank You today for reminding us how much we really need Your Word. We flit around daily craving to either hear the words of others or through our given medium are quick to pass on our words. Teach us to be still so we can hear what You have to say. Be it just one word. It is enough to still our hearts, to relieve our fears, to dismiss our doubts and to pull us into Your presence. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
