Every calendar year, folks make resolutions.
Or plans.
Or decrees.
However you care to look at it, every time the year draws to a close people resolve to do something different.
Lose weight.
Gain muscles.
Exercise more.
Sleep less.
Make more money.
Eat more vegetables.
Eat less meat.
Get rid of old clothes.
Buy new clothes for a new wardrobe.
Spend more time with family.
Spend less time with “so-called” friends.
The list I am sure could go on, and on, and on.
These plans are not in and of themselves bad. Folks make them because they have come to realize that some changes need to take place in their lives. They are not satisfied with how things are and so make a decision to effect something different.
This year, I want to encourage us all to follow through on our plans (well, the ethical ones anyways).
I also do not want us to stop there though, we need to be diligent in presenting them to our Maker as we ask Him to equip us to bring them to pass through His help, His strength and His direction.
Psalm 127 reminds us,
Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
So my friends, here’s a toast to a Reset – A Reset by God.
May all your plans come to pass only after you have presented them to God.
May 2019 be the year of living on purpose and living for the sole purpose of giving God glory.
This message just took me back to the sermon series that my parent’s pastor started the year with entitled RESET! WOW!!
